Mento brushed his gloved hands together and grinned at Larry Trainor and Supergirl. He stood upon a heap of shattered, smoking machinery that sixteen minutes ago had been a device capable of creating a pathway between dimensions. That was before he and his Doom Patrol teammates had come to Australia for the purpose of destroying the machine and ending the threat to their world. Mento's helmet crackled with residual psychic energies. The helmet amplified Steve Dayton's many latent mental abilities to extraordinary levels, making him capable of lifting a tank with telekinesis or creating impenetrable force fields, both of which had come in handy during the hellishly intense fight. It had been Mento and Larry Trainor's electromagnetic alter ego, Negative Man who had fought off General Immortus's soldiers and Feick Debee's drones while Supergirl had effortlessly trashed the dimensional device. Larry was surveying the dozens of unconscious, injured bodies and the wrecked weapons with a deep frown on his bandaged face. "Why so glum, chum?" Mento demanded. "Not a bad afternoon's work, I'd say. I wish every time we saved the world it was that easy!" "That's exactly the point, Dayton," Larry said slowly. "It was easy. It was too damned easy." |

The main command center of The Doom Patrol was unusually crowded on this eventful day. It was a room that had been intended to be occupied by six people at the most. But there had never been a situation such as this and in addition to the core members of The Doom Patrol, there was also gathered their various allies and associates that had joined them in recent days. The mutter of conversation was low and ended when the massive metal door slid away with a mechanized rumble and The Chief rolled inside. |

"There is nothin' on, above or below this crazy planet that's gonna make me believe that The Brain is gonna willingly help The Doom Patrol save th' world." Cliff Steele uttered the words with such total and inflexible conviction that they echoed inside the conference room of the Doom Patrol's Midway City headquarters. The Chief had brought Cliff and Larry Trainor inside the conference room so that he could speak with them privately. Yes, the ranks of The Doom Patrol had swelled considerably in recent weeks but the present discussion had to be between the core members of the team and with Rita and Steve Dayton, along with their adopted son, Garfield Logan currently not present, that left Cliff, Larry and Niles Caulder. The three men left the new members of the team in the brownstone adjoining the block of renovated warehouse while they removed themselves to the conference room where they could talk in privacy. Well, perhaps talk wasn't the right word because as usual, Cliff and Niles Caulder started tongue lashing each other while Larry played referee more than anything else. But he really had no need or want to hold back Cliff since he agreed with his partner 100%. |

Kara flew through the corridors toward the stasis room with a wide grin on her lovely face. Ever since she had agreed to serve with The Doom Patrol to replace the temporarily vacationing Elasti-Girl, Mento and Beast Boy, she'd been thirsting for some REAL action and it looked like she was finally going to get it now that Te Ukiri had somehow broken free of the stasis room The Chief had placed him in for observation. Kara's understanding of Te Ukiri was that it was a nanite intelligence from a sub-atomic world that had fought The Doom Patrol some months ago. Te Ukiri had been given over to Doctor Will Magnus, creator of The Metal Men for study and Magnus had taken his researches a bit too far by bonding the nanite intelligence inside of a Metal Man body, thereby creating what could be a truly dangerous and formidable foe. Kara flew into the stasis room and saw Te Ukiri standing quietly in the center of the room. Kara had no idea how it had gotten out and frankly she didn't care. The Chief had told her to put it back and that's just what she intended to do. Te Ukiri looked up as Kara flew in closer. He began to raise his hands and open his metal lips to speak- BOOM! |

The beast men were startled by the speed and power of the offensive attack of The Doom Patrol and their ally, Amanda Waller. Man-Bat launched himself right into the middle of them and with wide sweeps of his long arms, sent the troglodytes tumbling while Robotman waded in, metal fists cracking against misshapen jaws. "Careful, Cliff!" Larry Trainor cautioned. "We don’t want to injure any of them permanently if there’s a way to change them back to human!" Cliff tossed a troglodyte over his shoulder and yelled back at his teammate. "In that case, instead o’ you standin’ there playin’ quarterback, how’s ‘bout turnin’ N-Man loose so’s he can bag Janus?" |
