Origin and Background: (American) Jon Balent was a semi-successful mystery writer. While driving home one night he encountered a strange pulsating glow that engulphed his car and he lost control of the vehicle. The car sped off the mountain road and crashed into the valley below. Jon should have died in the crash, but the mysterious glow lifted him from the wreckage and infused him with a "gift". He awoke several miles from the accident site with no memory of what had happened. He could only remember brief flashes of the glow and incredible pain. Unknown to him the strange glow (aliens?) had grafted a living metallic organism to his nervous system, which granted him great power but robbed him of a piece of his humanity. When Jon activates his power his skin takes on a metallic hue.
