D&D maps

Every Friday I will post a new Creative Commons licensed map. You are free to use/print these maps for personal use only. If you wish to use any of these maps in a commercial or non-commercial product, please contact Tim Hartin to learn how.

And now for something completely different... A colour island map. Under the map image are notes about specific map details.

The Enhanced version of this map is available for sale ($3 US) at DriveThruRPG: Friday Enhanced Map: May 16, 2025. The May 16, 2025 Friday Enhanced Map product contains a PDF and a zip file of the colour island map image.

Map Details:

  • Grid Size: 36x46 10’ Squares or 72x92 5’ Squares (72 dpi); VTT Size: 2522x3221 (Note: I'm not using a grid but I left this information in case someone wished to added a grid.) This is part 2 of 2 maps. This is the DM version of the map.
  • This map is WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) with no additional versions. The locations on the map are as follows:
  • Ancient Ruins: dot the landscape. These ruins predate the formation of the island ring.
  • Forgotten Temples: These temples predate the formation of the island and are in relative decent shape.
  • Submerged Temple Ruins: Same as above but these ruins are submerged.
  • Obsidian Stone Monolith: A lone stone monolith stands in the highlands of the main island. Those that have seen the monolith feel like it is ever watching those around it.
  • Secluded Pirate Hideout: A band of pirates call this location their home. The pirates pay an active tribute to the red dragon, Arkorvis the Avarous (see below).
  • Hostile Forest Folk: These forest inhabitants are very hostile to any outside forces (including each other). These forest inhabitants can be of any species. Perhaps they are human, elvish, or even feral halflings.
  • Sands of the Hungry Dead: It is said that those who die on these sands will be re-animated as undead. The forest folk give this area a wide berth.
  • Natural Springs: These are natural fresh water springs. It is rumoured that the springs may have magical properties.
  • Arkorix the Avarous Dragon Lair: Arkorix the Avarous is an adult red dragon who has established his lair. He receives regular tribute payments for protection by the pirates.
  • Dormant Underwater Volcano: This undersea Volcano erupted several millennia ago creating the island ring that is prominent today.
  • Shark Infested Waters: Sharks are attracted to the waters around the island ring due to this
  • The Drowned Dead: The northern shore is haunted by undead that have drowned in those waters.
