I leave it up to gamemasters to create a more detailed map as needed. The red lines indicate
tunnels under the volcanoes. The red are small control rooms. At the end of every tunnel is a
security door. The geothermal generators are located a mile under the tunnel system, and are
inaccessable.
Force Field Generator Complex: Beneath the islands volcanoes are a maze of passageways
hewn from the living rock. These tunnels are filled with the complex machinery that generates
the force field around the island, protecting the island from the raveges of time, weather, and
from detection by the outside world. There are six entrances to these tunnels each is kept
sealed by a complex security door. The door is composed of an unknown alloy and is a solid
foot thick. The structural rating for the doors is 25. The machinery lining the tunnels is
given a structural rating of 7, but it would take the destruction of fully 40% of the
equiptment before the force field would be rendered inoperable. Before that could happen the
robots in charge of maintaining and securing the force field generator would respond. The
security robots will attack and attempt to subdue the characters for incarceration until the
beings who created the island return. Since it is unlikely the creators will return within the
characters lifetimes they will have to find a clever means of escape. Maintenence robots will
immeadeatly begin repairing damaged doors and machinery. They can repair at a rate of one cubic
foot of machinery every fifteen minutes per robot.
There is a central room that controls the generator, however the controls are completely alien
and Gamemasters should not allow characters to operate the controls without a very good reason.
Destroying the main controls will have no effect on the force field's automatic function it
will continue to operate unless it is incapable or given specific commands to shut down.
If the Force Field is shut down the effects will be as follows:
- Within two hours the clouds of mist that obscure the island will dissipate.
- Within twelve hours the now visible island will be showing up on satellite images.
The U. S. will be the first to send a team to investigate. Included will be two Coast Guard
helicopters, and one Navy helicopter. Fighter Jets will also do periodic fly-bys.
- Since the island is in International waters the U.S. will be unable to keep it a
secret. Within thirty six hours a United Nations peacekeeping force will take control of the
island. Examinations on the humans found on the island will commence before they are allowed to
return to their respective countries. Although some of the investigators will be appalled at
the results of Brandeau's "research" he will be taken in by U.S. officials and put into hiding.
Unknown to the characters he will be put in charge of an experimental government project and
will not resurface for several years.
- Within seventy two hours several species of animal on the island will begin to die
off due to the change in the local environment.
- Within ninety six hours researchers will realize that the generator was also helping
to stabilize the volcanoes on the island and now that they have been shut down a massive
eruption is imminent.
- Within one hundred and twenty hours the island will have destroyed itself. The alien
machinery and most of the dinosaurs on the island have also been lost. Some species of dinosaur
have been evacuated, but most or all of those will die within a month.
