Origin and Background: (Property of Quatermass Laboratories) Richard-3Q697665 was born (or some would say created) in one of many Genetic Research Labs that dot the U.S.A. He was created as an experiment to merge human DNA with Lion DNA. There were a total of 36 such hybrid "Richards", but only the third test subject survived past the crucial infant stage. At an early age, Richard impressed the research scientists when he began to imitate their speech. At first they thought this was just sort of mimicing ability, but once Richard started to actually talk on his own... the scientists were livid. They didn't know what to do. They had hoped for high intelligence, but they weren't counting on sentience. They did the only thing they could think off -- they informed their superior. Dr. Wagner Quatermass wouldn't hear of such foolishness. He saw Richard as nothing but an overgrown science experiment and he wouldn't hear of such nonsence of it being an intelligent being. He fired his researchers who displaced such ignorance, and quickly replaced them with men who could get the job done. Richard watched his friends (and all that he knew, he learnt from them and their books) leave, one after another they were escorted from the building by security. His sheltered world ended that day. The new researchers did horrible tests and experiments on him. They tore at his flesh and attempted to crush his spirit. Richard suffered at their hands, but soon even that pain dulled. In fact, he found himself growing stronger (and smarter) by the day. He felt great energy surge through his muscles. He knew what he had to do once he heard one of the scientists talk of him becoming a "promising biological weapon" -- Richard knew he had to escape. Using his new found strength and determination, Lionheart (as he was was often called by the friendly researchers) ripped his way out of his cell, and fought his way to the nearby wilderness. He escaped in the darkness as alarms rang out from the Laboratory. It was then, Lionheart started his search for his lost friends while staying one step a head of Quatermass Security as they attempted to hunt him down. His trek for help has often given him the chance to help (and inspire) others. Lionheart is a leader of action who fights for those who can't fight for themselves. He is a champion of the people. |
