|
Every Friday I will post a new Creative Commons licensed map. You are free to use/print these maps for personal use only. If you wish to use any of these maps in a commercial or non-commercial product, please contact Tim Hartin to learn how.
Friday Freebies usually include two (sometimes more) versions of the same map. One has a white background (for easier printing) and the other has a darker background. Click on the images below to view the larger version of the maps. Under the map images are notes about specific map details.
The Enhanced version of this map is available for sale ($2 US) at DriveThruRPG: Friday Enhanced Map: August 2, 2019. The August 2, 2019 Friday Enhanced Map product contains a multi-layered PDF (allowing the options of white or black backgrounds, numbered or non-numbered areas, and secret doors on or off) and a zip file with all relevant map files as individual jpg images.

Map Background:
- This is the final official level for the Eye of Shum'Morak.
- In the frozen plains of the far north lies the Eye of Shum?Morak. It is a large oval pit with a solid inner pillar. From above, the hole resembles an eye carved out of the earth. The Eye of Shum?Morak penetrates nearly a full mile into the earth.
- This level consists mostly of natural ice caverns. It has a large icy underground river that has ice flows on it. This level is the territory of the very old white dragon, Vlenserkontradix (also called Dragonclaw). He has been subdued by Shum?Morak and will obey his commands.
- The constructed chambers of the bottom part of the map have their own heat source (magical or geo-thermal?). The cold isn?t felt until one travels past the double doors of areas 9 and 10.
- Naturally a DM/GM can ignore all this and go with their own ideas.
Map Details:
- Areas 2 a), 2 b), 4 a), 4 b), 5, and 7 have pillars.
- Areas 2 b), 4 b), and 6 are on a dais/raised platform. The entrance section of area 7 has a dais/raised platform
- Area 6 has an altar and a statue.
- Area 8 has a magical circle. Perhaps this chamber is used for communicating with a being from the outer planes (such as an arch-devil, demon lord/prince, god, etc.).
- Area 13 has an open shaft in the cave ceiling that connects to the open pit on the upper levels.
- Areas 14, 15, 16, 18 b), 19, and 20 are part of an icy underground river. The white shapes within the water represent ice flows. The pale blue shapes are also ice flows but in their case, the ice is thin (with a risk of falling into the freezing water).
- Area 18 a) is the lair for the very old white dragon, Vlenserkontradix (also called Dragonclaw).
- Area 23 is a long tunnel that eventually leads to the surface several miles away from the Eye.
