Origin and Background: (American) As a child, Vinzent Prichard dreamed of becoming a cop. Unfortunately his dream didn't come true when a car accident damaged his back so severely that it wasn't known if he would be able to walk again. He spent many months in physical therapy as he slowly gained some of his movability back. While he was able to walk again, his physical condition wasn't strong enough for a career in the police force.

          During his time recovering, he spent his time creating and running a website and blog that had a criminology theme called Law and Disorder. His blog became a success and Vincent began writing on other successful blogs. He had taken his hobby and turned it into a career. He was making a name for himself as an investigative blogger who exposed some of the corruption that was taking place within the city.

          One night while checking up on a lead from one of his sources, he came across a group of men who were loading steel cannister drums from an unmarked truck to the nearby docked ship. Vincent used his digital camera to video tape the operation, but the dim light wasn't making for the best footage. He tried to get in closer so he could see what exactly was being loaded on to the ship. His source told him that this was a shipment of illegal biochemical waste being readied for shipment outside the country. His source also told him that the company behind this operation was owned by one of the city's leading politicians.

          As he got closer to the truck, his foot hit a loose pipe and the sound echoed throughut the area. Vincent quickly found himself surrounded by big, burly guys who ripped the camera from his hands and then began to beat the living crap out of him. Vincent remembered seeing the face of one of the goons who give him a sinister smile just before the lights went out (the goon had clobbered him unconscious with the very pipe that Vincent originally kicked).

          The goons proceeded to seal Vincent into one of the half empty drums and loaded him on the ship with the rest of the waste. By all accounts, Vincent should have died on that night but the chemicals had an unusual reaction with Vincent's own metabolism. Unknown to Vincent, the chemical goop he was immersed in was the failed bio-engineered experiment that was being discarded to avoid any embarrassing questions about its existence. The biochemical waste was based on genetically engineered spiders in the hope of creating a serum for aiding the body's immune system. The serum failed on animal and human test subjects but in Vincent's case, it had unpredictable results. Vincent gained his spider-like powers and it even help repair the previous damage his bodied had experienced.

          Vincent used his new found powers to escape from the drum and to alert the coast guard to the ship's illegal content. He was able to shrink down in size and avoid detection from the coast guard and the harbor patrol once the ship was seized. He made his way home to his apartment without much hassle. He was bewildered about his new found powers but he decided that he could now do something about the crime instead of just blogging about it. He took the name of the Golden Spider and became a hero in the name of justice. He still maintains the pretense of his car accident injury to help masquerade the fact that he is the Golden Spider.
