1. Android Body: The Human Torch is a synthetic being created by Professor Phineas T. Horton. The Torch's Android body is considered to have the following features: a. Android Endurance Bonus: +18 b. Body Power (Self-Repairing Systems): Unlike other androids, the Torch has internal self-repairing systems that maintain him in working condition. This ability mimics the human healing process (gains the ability to heal as per his Healing Rate per night). Designer Note: In the Invaders comics, I'm not sure if the Torch really had a "self-repairing system", but they never did spend much time repairing him either. He would take a beating and then be okay a few panels/pages later. So I went with the internal repair system route. |
||
2. Body Power (Control Ambient Heat): The Torch can control the ambient heat energy within his immediate environment (16" radius), even when he himself is not aflame. He can reduce an object's temperature (if it is in a normal range for existing on Earth's surface) to about 30° F (-1° C), raise it to several hundred degrees (approx. 93° C), or extinguish open flames. PR 1/attempt. Living creatures receive a -1 modifier to Initiative for each 10 degrees above/below their normal body temperatures.
3. Flame Powers: Automatic Flame defense. Can fly up to the maximum speed of 140 mph (616" air). Range 42", +2 to Hit (includes Training Bonuses), 1d12+2 Damage (includes Training Bonuses), PR 3 to activate the ability, 3/attack, 1/hour of flight.
4. Heightened Agility A +12
5. Illusions (Type B/Solid Energy): Animated firey creations. Range 48", Creation Points equal twice his current Power score. 1 Creation Point spent creates 1 HP and 2" of movement rate. Attacks do damage as per Brawling Weapons (multiply the creations HPs by 50 and consult the table given in 3.3 for the bonuses to hit and damage caused).
6. Mutant Power (Nova-Burst): The Torch can release all of his body's stored energy in one intense, omnidirectional "nova-burst", which can reach about 1,000,000%deg; F (555,528° C) and which is similar to the heat-pulse of a nuclear warhead detonation. Area Effected: 180" radius (all within this range are targeted), +20 to Hit, Damage 2d100 + 100 points! PR 74/"nova-burst".
7. Natural Weaponry (Combat Veteran): +3 to hit (includes Training Bonuses), +3 damage (includes Training Bonus).
8. Weakness (Prejudice): Some people are uneasy about the Torch's artificial origin/nature and this translates into a sense of distrust and uneasiness. During the war years, the Human Torch percentage chance to overcome this prejudice equals his Ix5%. This percentage bonus applies only to those who are on the Allied side (otherwise use the standard base percentage equals the Torch's Intelligence score).
9. Weakness (Vulnerability): The Human Torch's flame is supported by the presence of oxygen, and can be extinguished in a low air pressure or a vacuum. His flame can also be extinguished by smothering materials, such as water, sand, fire-fighting foam, and heat-resistant blankets.

Origin and Background: (Android) The original Human Torch began his existence is 1939 in the laboratory of Professor Phineas T Horton, one of the pioneers in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. The culmination of Horton's research was an android who mimicked virtually all of the functions of a human being, including independent thought, but was composed entirely of synthetic materials. The one flaw in the android's design concerned the photoelectric solar cells which covered every square inch of his body and served as his power source. The cells were too volatile and caused the epidermis of the android to burst into flame upon contact with air but without harming the android itself. Horton revealed the Torch's existence to the public at a press conference in November 1939, at which he demonstrated how the Torch would burst into flame if he introduced a small amount of oxygen into the transparent container in which he was confined. The news media proclaimed the Torch to be a potential menace, and so Horton buried the android in his supposedly airtight tube within cement until such time as he could find a way either to prevent the android from bursting into flame or learn how to control its flame. There was a slow leak in the tube, however, and eventually enough oxygen entered so that the android's flame ignited explosively, permitting him to escape. Wreaking havoc in innocent exploration of his environment, the android, inaccurately dubbed the Human Torch, soon realized the panic he was causing and, unable to control his flaming power, doused his flame in a swimming pool. The Human Torch eventually gained control over his flame and became a crimefighter. He allied himself with the young mutant Toro, who possessed powers similar to his own. At first the greatest adversary the Torch faced in combat was the Sub-Mariner. The Torch and Toro, as well as the Sub-Mariner, who became their ally and friend, served together as members of the Invaders during World War II and the All-Winners Squad during the postwar years.
