Origin and Background: (American) Nicholas Bennett is the sound of the famed industrialist, Robert Michael Bennett of Bennett Industries. Nicholas spent most of his time chasing women and having a good time. While he was no slouch in academics, he never applied himself to his studies and as a result he drifted from college to college never finishing a degree. He often jokes that he majored in partying while he was in college.
It was in college that Nicholas discovered his talent in archery. Once his father allowed him to stop spending his time with studies that didn't interest him, he would go on to enter and win archery competition after competition. Even with all of these accolades he was receiving in the world of professional archery, his father still reguarded him as a failure since he couldn't earn a business degree. Or even more important, his father felt that he would not be ready to take over the family business when the time came. Nicholas ignored his father's griping and continued to live his luxurious life style as he travelled the world competing in various archery competitions.
While he was competing in Hong Kong, Nicholas had run foul with a local crime boss, Bad Toby Chiao and his gang of thieves and killers. Bad Toby placed a price on Nicholas' head. A friend of Nicholas who had spent a lot of his time in Hong Kong tried to warn him about Bad Toby Chiao, but Nicholas blew it off. He said he wasn't worried about a bunch of local gang-bangers because he was going back to the US. He would be safe in the US.
Back in the U.S.A., Nicholas made his way to a ritzy New York restaurant because he promised he would meet his father for lunch. His father said he had something important he wanted to talk to Nicholas about. They met and exchanged pleasantries over drinks. Nicholas asked his father what the important news was and his father told him that he had cancer. The doctors give him two months to live. Nicholas was shocked at the news. He didn't know what to say. As he tried to find the right words, he watched a tall man in a dark suit and wearing stylish shades walk towards their table. Suddenly, the unknown man pulled a gun and began to fire at them.
Nicholas pushed the table over so they could get some cover. Bullets rain past them. His father grunted and fell to the floor. Nicholas screamed, "Dad!". Among the chaos of the other customers scrammbling to get out of the way of the gunfire, Nicholas sprinted over the table and kicked the gun from the assassin's hand. They fought for a short time only to have the assassin beat Nicholas with his martial arts. As the assassin had his hands around Nicholas' neck, he bent forward and whispered, "Bad Toby Chiao sent his regards." Nicholas was shocked. His father laid unconscious on the floor bleeding from who knows how many bullet wounds and it was all his fault. Now his life was slipping from his grasp as he began to black out.
He woke up to find himself in the hospital. He learned that the timely arrival of the Police saved his life. The assassin was shot and killed while he was aiming his gun at Nicholas' unconscious body. Nicholas asked about his father and was devastated to find out that his father had died from multiple gunshot wounds. Nicholas was now the inheriot of Bennett Industries. His mind wasn't on running the family company, but on his unfinished business with Bad Toby. He blame Bad Tony for his father's death and swore revenge. Using his abundant capital, he crafted a specialized bow and a series of "trick" arrows. Once his gear and outfit were ready, he went to Hong Kong to get his revenge.
Once in Hong Kong, it didn't take him long to find Bad Toby dining in a private restaurant. He took out the body guards and prepared to kill the ganster that killed his father. Nicholas found that he couldn't do it. Deep in his heart he knew the death of his father was his fault in the first place. It was his own arrogance that led to the circunstancs that killed his father. Nicholas fired his arrow and it hit just a hair's width from Bad Toby's ear. Nicholas told him that he was known as Snapshot and he was sent by Nicholas Bennett to warn Toby to stay away, or else he wouls make sure the next arrow didn't miss. He then turned and quickly made his exit.
Nicholas would find out the next day that Bad Toby was killed in a mob hit (unknown to him, a rival gangster took advantage of Bad Toby's situation and finished the job for him). Nicholas decided he had to continue to fight crime and injustice as Snapshot. It was his way of atoning for the death of his father and the mistakes he made in his life. The guilt of his father's death, has only fuelled his commitment as the hero, Snapshot.
