Welcome to the V&V Marvel Universe Index.
Ever since the debut of Fantastic Four #1 in 1961, the Marvel Universe has enthralled its readers over the many years. This page is an attempt to chronicle, in V&V terminology, the Marvel Universe from its humble beginnings in the Silver Age to the Bronze Age (mid to late 1980s).
Why stop there you ask? My reason is simple. This period of Marvel's history is the one that I know best. I sort of drifted away from Marvel during the late eighties and Marvel hasn't recaptured my imagination like it did then. Don't get me wrong though, Marvel has done some great stuff since then (and some of these elements will probably make their way into a few of the conversions as optional material), but I prefer to work with material that I know best.
Naturally, I recommend any viewer to use what they wish and ignore the rest. After all, isn't that what we always do as comic readers and RPGers.
And now a few words about the Marvel Universe Characters:
Levels: When I'm determining a character's level, I try to think of where he or she would fall within Marvel's "10 Year Continuity Rule". What's this "rule"? It means the Fantastic Four's first voyage into space happened 10 years ago from today. I use this "rule" to map out the character's level in relation to his age and the time he has been "active" in the MU.
In other words, I try to imagine the characters within their own continuity time frame as oppose to that of their publishing history. Ideally, I wish I could set down and plot a character's history from issue 1 (or first appearance) and then award experience based on the comic's story, but who has time to do that.
Charisma Bonuses: I don't add these directly to the Charisma stat. I have always called these bonus points 'Reputation' and kept them as a separate "stat" (they act as modifiers to the Reaction adjustment). To correct this oversight, just add the character's level to their Charisma score to determine their "true" Charisma. Characters with the newer format have their Charisma Bonuses added to their Charisma Scores already.
Training Bonuses: Some conversions may not include the Training Bonuses, so the GM is encouraged to apply his own. Newer conversions have these included in the write-ups and I'm slowly going back to update the older conversions. Some older conversions do have the Training bonuses worked into the conversion but they aren't readily apparent. I'll fix this also as I update the older material.
Reputations: Membership in the various Hero and Villain groups, societies and organizations have a built-in reputation modifier (add to Charisma) associated with them.
